July 08 2014 - Investigation concerning animal abuse and cruelty continues
Reports of animal abuse and cruelty at the Happy Tails Animal Rescue in Murchison, so far, seem to be unfounded. The Henderson County Sheriff's Department has launched a formal investigation against the facility. According to Maj. Botie Hillhouse, the HCSO has received some complaints against the rescue facility.

An Athens business that sells large amounts of fertilizer erupted into flames on Thursday afternoon, leading to an evacuation of the downtown area as responders fought the flames. No one was injured in the fire that was first reported at 5:43 p.m. at the Ag Services storage building on W. Larkin Street, about three blocks from the Henderson County Courthouse.
