The New Jersey Transit Corporation (NJ Transit) operates extensive rail and bus service throughout the state.
NJ Transit is a state-run corporation that began with the consolidation of several private bus companies in North Jersey.
Some private bus carriers still remain in New Jersey. Most of these carriers operate with state funding to offset losses and state owned buses are provided to these carriers.
Other carriers include private charter and tour bus operators that take gamblers from other parts of New Jersey.
New Jersey Transit Bus Operations owns, leases, or subleases over 3,000 buses, with direct control of 2,477 as of 2007, and many more have been purchased for community shuttles.
Several private bus lines provide transportation service in the state of New Jersey. |
