Mississippi is a state located in the Southern United States.
Jackson is the state capital and largest city.
The state's name comes from the Mississippi River, which flows along its western boundary,
and takes its name from the Ojibwe word misi-ziibi ("Great River").
The "hospitality State" is heavily forested outside of the Mississippi Delta area. I
ts catfish aquaculture farms produce the majority of farm-raised catfish consumed in the United States.
The state symbol is the magnolia tree.
State highways in Mississippi are maintained by the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
The state numbers its highways in a grid-like pattern, much like the U.S.
Route numbering scheme. One and two-digit routes are primary highways. |
