Your local transit system opened its doors in November of 1977, which translates to over 30 years of safe, reliable transit service to Amador County (service to Sacramento began in Fall, 1999). Started on a shoestring budget with only 3 small vans serving the lower end of the county, today ARTS operates on a 1.5 million dollar annual budget running a fleet of 12 buses with weekday service between all major population centers in the county and into downtown Sacramento. Among ARTS staffers are 4 employees whose tenure exceeds 20 years. Our longest-serving employee is Doug Axtell, ARTS' Maintenance and Safety Manager, with 26 years in the saddle. A good man to have in charge of safety, Doug has never had an accident in all those years.
